Our Project - The house - The (temporary) bedroom

The old shed that also contains the bathroom ultimately should become a home office.

But as we decided to delay our plans for the attic, it temporarily becomes our bedroom.

The area above the bedroom and bathroom will be used for storage. First it needs to be emptied and cleaned. Then we repair the floor.

To access to this area we will install folding stairs. These stairs can later be re-used when we make a loft on the first floor.

We start the job in August 2006 and hope to be ready by October.

First we secure the single brick wall above the future door opening. We use an oak beam that we saved from the separation wall in the living room. As said, the beam only supports a single brick wall, the rest is already supported by two oak beams that were covering the old case.
Then we can remove the wall.
We place two vertical beams and put them into concrete. They will support the door posts.

We close the ceiling and install the folding stairs.

Plasterboard

In October we have help from our friends. All walls are covered with plaster board and electricity cabling is adapted. Unfortunately we cannot yet paint the ceiling and decorate the walls. That will be for December!

Finishing

End of November 2006 we move to France. The bedroom is the first project that needs to be completed. We paint a wall and the ceiling and decorate the other walls. After two days we can move the beds out of the living room and we sleep in our bedroom for the first time.

The next days we work on the frame for the wardrobe. We are still looking for the right doors, but meanwhile we will close it with a curtain.
