Our Project - The stables get their concrete floor

Mid September 2007 we start working on the floor of the stable (B). First we have to move everything that is stored in the stable. Most of it are tools that will have their final destination in the pig stable outside, but only after this stable also gets its concrete floor.  We will do both floors at the same time. In August I already took care of the electricity- an underground cable goes from stable B to the pigs stable.

For the concrete we make use of gravel. Our estimation is that we need 1000 square meters.

We start with the floor of the stable. WWhere we have to put a lot of concrete we use a mixture of gravel, sand and cement. The rest we fill with a mixture of sand and cement. When the floor is done we let it dry for a few days.

The next day half of the pigs stable is done. It's about  9m2. We first have to remove a lot of garbage - wood, sand, bricks. We keep the bricks to fill the larger holes. It makes a good foundation. Then we put a metal harness, followed by the concrete.
Early in the afternoon there is not much left of the sand and gravel.

When this is done we go looking for tiles and a window of 140 x 95cm. It will be installed in the opening of the stable (see photo). It's first time right! We find what we are looking for. We already bought the bricks to close the opening before.

The window is placed
First we build a wall of concrete bricks ("perpaigns") of 50x20x25cm.
The next days the cement between the bricks is sufficiently dried to carry the window. The floor is flattened with "egaline". When this is dry the tiles can be put.
We continue inside
Hellen has decided that one of the walls will not be covered with plaster board. The natural stones will remain visible and will be filled with a mixture of sand, cement, white kalk and red kleurstof. First the wall is treated against humidity.
The tiles are put. Their gray colour gives the impression of pavement.

Also below the window outside we put a few tiles.

Now we can go ahead with the walls and the ceiling. More about this on the next page.
