Our Project - The Garden  in 2007

All those pictures and narrative about the house may give the impression that nothing is being done in the garden. To the contrary...

We have many plans for the garden and already worked on a few projects. In front of the house we replaced the fence and we made a small storage area for the wood at the side of the pig stable. One of the stables has been cleaned out and has been transformed into a shed where Hellen can start growing some plants for the garden.

Also the kitchen garden is already free of weeds. In February Hellen can already plant garlic. Just move over her back for a moment...

And then we have the chicken run...

A Chicken Run

In the second part of the garden we are building a fence around a yard of approximately 40mē. In the middle we will put a higher post, connected with metal wire to each angle. This will carry a net.

Unfortunately we cannot find a net that is wide enough, so we use five rows of metal fence.

In one of the corners we build a shelter. We cover it with three rows of tiles. At one side there will be an entrance, next to the entrance to the run.

A Greenhouse

In April we also start working on a greenhouse. It is made out of the glass with aluminium frames that my friend removed from the front of the house last year. Now he helps to set them up again!

We put some wooden shelves and off we go.

Phase 3 is being worked on

In spring we buy a powerful lawn mower. The machine works its way through the grass and herbs of Phase 3. We discover some plants and trees that we clearly mark. Around the roses we build a construction of wood allowing them to climb.

The caravan also gets a new spot in this area. We build a fence of almost 75 meters. Quite some posts, but just after a rain shower it is not too difficult to put them into the ground.
Behind the caravan we plant various plants and bushes.

An Arbour

At the same time that we buy the wood for the terrace we buy an arbour.

Excluding the screws we count 82 components. Following the instructions the arbour is built up in a few hours.

There was already a mini pergola with kiwi plants. We integrate the vertical parts with the arbour.

Now just the floor is missing.

Early September a wooden floor is made. We also put electrical wiring and our garden house is ready.
